A very enthusiastic group of Year 9 art students took their futures in their own hands and made proposals to four influential Dragons at John Lewis Westfield.
The students were there to gain backing for their own business ideas. The project ran over seven weeks in collaboration with the Newham Education Business Partnership (NEBP). Georgia Holleran from the NEBP worked with Mr Gillatt and his art group to develop real businesses based in the creative industries. The 24 students worked tirelessly to produce viable business ideas, resources, action plans and presentation strategies. They had mock interviews with Dragons as part of their preparation, as well as creating a complete business package with visuals for the final presentation.
The students were in 4 teams and were all competing for backing from the Dragons. The event was amazing with everyone giving the performance of their lives. The Dragons were so impressed they want the students to develop their ideas further saying that at least 2 of the proposals could be put into action almost immediately. The students have now got the experience many adults will never have and have got themselves firmly on the radar with some of Newham’s most influential business people. We are running other projects with the NEBP and plan to develop a range of wallpaper with John Lewis so watch this space.
