Key Stage 3 (Years 7-8)
In PE at Key Stage 3, students follow a broad curriculum which gives them the chance to take part in a range of activities. Students are introduced to Cricket, Rounders, Athletics, Rugby, Football, Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Netball, Gymnastics and Health Related Fitness which they develop from a basic level. At Key Stage 3, the curriculum is geared towards students choosing Edexcel BTEC level 2 to study during Key Stage 4. Students with very good practical levels also have the option to study GCSE Short Course or GCSE Full Course. Students are therefore equipped with the basic knowledge for these qualifications.
Key Stage 4 (Years 9-11)
In PE at Key Stage 4, students build on their learning from Key Stage 3 and study the sports above in much more depth. Students also develop their leadership skills during these lessons and many are encouraged to complete a Sports Leaders Qualification in year 10 or 11. Many students choose Edexcel BTEC level 2 to study as one of their options. During these lessons they will perform in different sports. Students learn about a healthy, active lifestyle. They also learn about the different components of fitness, principles of training and fitness testing methods.
Extra-Curricular Activities play an important role in PE at Forest Gate Community School. We have Football and Cricket teams for all years, boys and girls. We also take part in Rugby, Netball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Cross Country and Athletics against other London schools. Weekly activities are also available for students to further develop their practical skills. Popular clubs are Football, Basketball, Rugby, Table Tennis, Cricket, Karate, Badminton and Netball. Forest Gate students also have access to the fitness suite every day at lunch time and after school.
