Pupil Premium Strategy Statement here
What are our aims for the Pupil Premium Grant?
Our aim is to reduce the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peer, and to equip all students with the literacy, numeracy, and wider skills they need for success in school and beyond. We are committed to raising aspirations, fostering ambition, and ensuring every child can thrive regardless of background.
We prioritise:
- Literacy and reading development – addressing lower KS2 reading scores on entry, especially for disadvantaged pupils
- Numeracy mastery – ensuring fluency and confidence in mathematical understanding.
- Homework completion and independent study – supported through structured homework clubs and the Open Access Breakout Space.
- Attendance and punctuality – reducing gaps in attendance between PP and non-PP pupils.
- Raising aspirations – providing access to mentoring, university pathways, careers workshops, and enrichment opportunities
Who benefits from the Pupil Premium Grant?
While our allocation is targeted primarily at disadvantaged pupils, many interventions benefit the whole school community. For example, investment in high-quality teaching, staff professional development, and curriculum design supports every learner, while still having a disproportionately positive impact on disadvantaged pupils.
What barriers do pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant face?
The barriers are varied, but in our context the following are key:
- Low literacy and reading attainment
- Attendance and punctuality issues
- Homework completion and home learning environment
- Attainment gaps in core subjects
- Limited aspirations and exposure to higher education and careers
How do we decide how to spend the Pupil Premium Grant?
Spending decisions are guided by robust research and evidence, including the Sutton Trust’s School Funding and Pupil Premium (2019) and the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) Toolkit. This is combined with our professional expertise and contextual knowledge.
Priority areas for investment include:
- Smaller classes and targeted support in English and Maths
- Evidence-based literacy interventions (e.g., phonics, Lexia reading, comprehension strategies)
- Structured numeracy interventions (e.g., mastery learning)
- High-quality teaching and curriculum development
- Extended homework provision and access to ICT resources
- Specialist support for SEND and EAL learners
- Attendance and family engagement initiatives
- Broadened horizons through enrichment, careers, and mentoring programmes
